Not so long ago, before the advent of laptops and especially iPad EFBs, airline pilots needed a lot of space for their maps, E6B Flight Computer and later electronic flight computer, instrument charts, Jeppesen manuals, Ops manuals, flight plans, NOTAMS etc. This required that flight crew had a big old pilot case with wheels to help carry the weight of the load. Even general aviation pilots had many maps, kneeboards, note pads, flight computer, NOTAMS etc.

Nowadays all the manuals and charts as well as the computing requirements are digital and incorporated in an EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) – a big name for an iPad loaded with everything you need.

So, using a pilot case nowadays is rarely needed and all you need is a VNAV leather flight bag. Whether you have a vintage Tiger Moth, a beast of a Cessna 210, battle ‘fire’ and ice in an ATR around the ITCZ, hop around the region on short haul flights or cross between the continents in the Queen of the Skies, these bags will fit right in. Small enough to sling over your shoulder but it has more than enough space for your flight equipment.

Our Karoo flight bag was designed with the general aviation pilot or light aircraft charter flight crew in mind. It has a water bottle holder, because these aviators normally do not have the luxury of cabin crew serving drinks during the flight! Further, it also has a radio holder so you can take your backup VHF radio to have on hand should the aircraft equipment let you down.

These leather flight cases can fit between the front seats of many aircraft and is therefore always at your hand. With a compartment or pocket for every need so you know exactly where to get it.

STRATOSPHERE PROFESSIONAL PILOT FLIGHT BAGS

The VNAV Stratosphere leather flight bags and canvas flight bags share the same basic dimensions as the Karoo but without the water bottle and radio holders. They are suited for the professional pilot or airline crew and has a strap at the back to keep it on the handles of your wheeler suitcase when moving through the airport. It has space for a second backup iPad EFB (if you’re the first officer that must carry it for the captain!), your personal headset and jersey/jacket so you can put on something warm for the pre-flight during a cold turnaround back to your warmer base.
